The speed of the Internet has changed the way people conduct business, making faxes and snail mail obsolete. For writers, though, the Internet is more than just a fast way to deliver projects or send pitches: It is a whole new slate of writing opportunities.

In February 2009, Graydon Carter, editor of Vanity Fair, made an interesting observation about the great depression. "The 30s, a decade of devastating hardship for so many, was also the golden age of art, photography, theater, and film." He went on to say that, "Many of our great magazines, including Fortune, Life, Newsweek, and Esquire, were started during the decade."

If the current recession ushers in any sort of golden age for writers, the one sure thing is that the Internet will play a big role. Learn how to write for consumer websites and corporations, how to blog, and how to podcast. Then learn how to use the internet as your storefront to sell your own books online.
