Bulletin #3.4 - 2009 PWAC National
Conference & AGM: Schedule, Registration and Accommodation Information
Now Available
Wednesday, 11th March, 2009
PWAC
National Office is pleased to inform PWAC members that information for the
2009 PWAC National Conference & AGM is now available online and in
print. For the first time, PWAC is partnering with a number of other
industry organizations for MagNet, the premier perioidical conference from
magazines Canada .
For the first time in PWAC history, PWAC members will attend networking and
professional development sessions, award shows, product demonstrations and
much more with peers, employers, and others while enjoying the ever-popular
PWAC-only events during evenings and after the Conference.
PWAC's Conference program runs Wednesday, June 3rd to Friday, June 5th,
followed by the AGM and Regional meetings on Saturday, June 6th.
In the upcoming weeks, if you haven't already, you will receive a paper
mailing from Magazines Canada with the complete MagNet brochure, detailing
the schedule, pricing & registration form.
If you don't want to wait to receive your paper brochure, please don't
hesitate to visit the MagNet website. The website has
links to the digital brochure, the complete schedule and session
descriptions by stream (advertising sales, circulation, design, digital,
editorial, management, production, small magazines, special events, and writing),
as well as an online registration form. If you'd rather
complete a paper registration form, you can wait for your paper brochure to
be mailed to you or fill in the registration form available here and mail or fax directly to
Magazines Canada (contact information available on the form).
How to Register: Members
1) Choose the four
professional development sessions you are interested in from those
available between Wednesday, June 3rd and Friday, June 5th. You are not
limited to any one stream and may spread your sessions around between the
three days or concentrate them into one. Your first four sessions are
included in the base conference cost of $240. Each additional session costs
$60. And please note session SE7 "Federal Magazine Policy: What's
Going On?!" on Thursday, June 4th is a special free session for which
registration is required but will not count as one of your four included
sessions.
When you are not attending a session, you are free to explore
Toronto or network
with editors, publishers, and etc. throughout the venue, where there is
dedicated space for complimentary snacks, wireless internet access, and
supplier demonstrations & samples. These "break" rooms
provide an excellent opportunity to meet with potential employers and your
writing colleagues!
2) Once you have chosen your four sessions, add one of the two Friday
afternoon BONUS double
sessions (W23 and W24) to your registration:
- [W23] Pitchcraft: How to
Pitch Like a Pro
- [W24] BOOM Networking!
Make Your Freelance Business Explode!
One double session is included
in the base conference cost of $240. If
you do not add these event codes to your registration, you will not be able
to attend without purchasing a ticket at an additional cost.
3) Add the following BONUS
special events to your registration:
- [SE4] Writers' Welcome
Reception (Wednesday, June 3)
- [TDN] PWAC Package - PWAC
Awards Dinner Banquet (Thursday, June 4)
- [FLN] PWAC/CAA Package -
Writers' Industry Awards Luncheon (Friday, June 5)
- [SE14] EAC Welcome
Reception (Friday, June 5)
These three special events are
included in the base conference cost of $240 (other special events not
listed here are offered to MagNet participants but not included in the PWAC
Conference Package). If you do not add
these event codes to your registration, you will not be able to attend
without purchasing a ticket at an additional cost.
Please note: if you are a PWAC member who is not registered for the entire
conference, you will be able to attend some of these special sessions but
will have to pay for each event separately, at the regular member pricing
(guests may also purchase tickets for these events):
- E10: PWAC Awards Dinner
Banquet (Thursday, June 4; $50)
- SE13: Writers' Industry
Awards Luncheon (Friday, June 5; $35)
Make sure
you indicate you are a member of PWAC when you register for the Conference
(either online or using the paper form) to take advantage of member-only
pricing.
How to Register: Non-Members
Non-members
are invited to attend any MagNet event but will be charged non-member
pricing. Feel free to invite your family, friends, and peers to any MagNet event,
including the PWAC Awards Dinner Banquet ($60) and Writers' Industry Awards
Luncheon ($25). They will be required to register separately, indicating
they are a non-member at the beginning of the registration process.
