How Busy PWACers & MagNet Attendees Relax
In addition to the extensive list of professional development sessions and networking opportunities on the official list for MagNet, PWAC's Toronto Chapter has pulled together an extensive list of extracurricular events to supplement the MagNet attendee's experience.
All of the events below are open to PWAC MagNet attendees & PWAC members not attending MagNet, but are interested in the extracurricular schedule.
Keeping with PWAC's annual tradition, PWAC's Local Host Committee for MagNet, the Toronto Chapter, has reserved the Giovanni Room at 89 Chestnut for After Hours events. Connect with your fellow PWAC members and meet your peers from the Canadian Authors Association (CAA), the Editors' Association of Canada (EAC), and Magazines Canada after a hard day's work at MagNet sessions! "After Hours" events include:
After Hours Welcome (following the Writers' Welcome Reception) Date: Wednesday, June 3rd Time: 9:00 pm Cost: Free Admission, Cash Bar Bring your own voice and/or instrument to round out the talent in a casual atmosphere of music and sing-along. Drop in, meet new friends, reconnect and party 'til the wee hours. The more the merrier! We provide the stage, microphone, munchies and cash bar. You provide the talent!
After Hours Literary Night (following the PWAC Awards Gala Dinner) Date: Thursday, June 4th Time: 9:00 pm Cost: Free Admission, Cash Bar Individuals and groups are invited to sign-up early at the Experience Toronto Booth (on site at 89 Chestnut) to perform literary works in front of a live audience (spaces are limited). Past highlights include mock Shakespeare performances (no rehearsals required), Chaucer readings and highlighted fiction and non-fiction, published and unpublished works by writers and authors. A surprising mix of high-spirited efforts add to the entertainment and fun in a casual group setting. Cash bar and free munchies.
After Hours Movie: Pontypool Date: Friday, June 5th Time: 9:00 - 11:00 pm Cost: Free Admission, Cash Bar Tony Burgess, who wrote the book and screenplay for Pontypool will introduce this well-reviewed film and answer questions after the closing credits.
Hats 'n Chocolate Date: Friday, June 5th Time: 11:00 pm Cost: Free Admission, Cash Bar Wear a hat and bring some chocolate for the communal good will sharing of your sweets. We provide the munchies and cash bar. You provide the decadence!

Eco Walking Tour of the Don Valley Date: Saturday, June 6th Time: 2:30 - 5:30 pm Cost: Free + public transit cost Meet in the 89 Chestnut lobby and join Toronto environmental journalists Craig Saunders and Saul Chernos for a 2-hour walking tour that explores the history and ecology of Canada's most urban river. Learn about plans to redevelop Brownfield's and restore the river valley. Experts on Brownfield redevelopment and the Don Valley's ecology will join the walk as guest speakers. After a short streetcar ride, the walk will begin at Riverdale Library and will end at the Mill Street Brewery in the historic distillery district. Let's Do Brunch! Date: Sunday, June 7th Time: 10:00 am, 11:00 am, or 12:00 pm Cost: Cost of meal + public transit cost (if applicable) Meet in the 89 Chestnut lobby at any of the three times and take a short walk, streetcar or subway ride to your choice of best brunch spots. Toronto Island Park by Ferry/Walking Tours Date: Sunday, June 7th Time: 1:30 pm Cost: General Admission Fare (including return trip) $6.50 + public transit cost Group meets in the 89 Chestnut lobby for a quick subway ride to Harbourfront. Enjoy a day by the water at Hanlan's Point or Ward's Island.
Also provided complimentary for PWAC MagNet attendees are 5-day passes for Goodlife Fitness Clubs for use while in Toronto. Pick-up your pass at the Experience Toronto Booth (on site at 89 Chestnut; first come, first serve). With locations throughout the Greater Toronto area, there are a number of Goodlife locations in the proximity of the 89 Chestnut Hotel.
