The Story of Your Life - An Introduction to Writing Memoirs with writer and historian Cheryl MacDonald, sponsored by Haldimand Museums

U of T presents The Limits of Free Speech: Dignity and Indignity in a Multicultural Society. Free expression talk

Ian Buruma, Henry R. Luce Professor of Democracy, Human Rights, and Journalism at Bard College, tackles a broad range of political and cultural subjects for The New York Review of Books, The New York Times, Corriere della Sera and The New Yorker. His book, Murder in Amsterdam: The Death of Theo van Gogh and the Limits of Tolerance, was the winner of The Los Angeles Times Book Prize for the Best Current Interest Book.

The Art of Poetry about Art: Writing Ekphrastic Poems
Saturday, April 17 Noon to 5:00 p.m.
Designed for writers of all levels, a close look at the past, present and future of this fertile genre as a means of refining this poetic craft. Examine a variety of poems written in the ekphrastic tradition and discuss how the tradition must inevitably change with new forms of "art". Day ends with a visit to a local gallery, creating new poems or sketching the first faint lines of a future masterpiece.
