Nov. 22, 2005 seminar - Getting Down to Business
Tools and Tactics That Will Make Your Freelance Writing Business Thrive!

The creative act of writing may nourish the soul, but knowing how to manage the business of writing is the real key to keeping you, the writer, well-fed. This seminar was aimed at aspiring and current freelancers seeking more information on finding clients, self-promotion, budgeting, accounting, setting rates, collecting fees, and evaluating jobs and prospects. It featured practical advice and first-person stories from the following panel of successful freelance writers:

Paul Lima, a prolific freelance writer, corporate communicator, writing instructor and media trainer who explained the time-management strategies that have contributed to his thriving career.

Dorothea Helms, aka The Writing Fairy, a freelance writer/editor who develops and presents information-packed writing workshops and courses, and who shared the secrets behind her six-figure salary.

Alex Gillis, a full-time freelance journalist and feature writing instructor at Ryerson University who revealed his formula for becoming a regular contributor to leading Canadian publications such as Toronto Life, Chatelaine, The Walrus, The Globe and Mail, The National Post and The Toronto Star.
